Innovators in Food Ingredients and Nutritional Supplements
Consumer/Product Benefits:
* Calcium citrate does not promote gas production in the digestive tract and has neutral
or positive taste and mouth feel characteristics, especially when compared to other
calcium sources such as calcium carbonate or calcium phosphate.
* Our Ultra Fine Grind Calcium Citrate provides the benefits of calcium fortification in higher
pH systems and in solid foods without the grainy mouth feel found in many calcium
supplements. Formulators have found it useful in soy, dairy, and fruit drinks as well as
baked goods, yogurt, cottage cheese, nutritional "shakes," and baby foods.
Nutritional Labeling:
* Calcium Citrate added at a rate of 16 grams per gallon will provide 20% of the RDA in
an 8 oz. serving. The beverage can be labeled "High in calcium, helps prevent
osteoporosis."
* Calcium Citrate added at a rate of 24 grams per gallon will provide 30% of the RDA in
an 8 oz. serving. The beverage can be labeled "As much calcium as milk, helps prevent
osteoporosis."
Manufacturing Benefits:
* In beverages with a pH below 4.5, calcium citrate added at a rate of 24 grams per gallon
under high shear conditions will dissolve quickly. It does not promote gas production in
the manufacturing process.
* Nutricepts, Inc's. unique ultra fine grind (UFG) calcium citrate will dissolve even more
quickly in acid beverages and stays suspended better in viscous beverages or foods with
a pH too high to dissolve the salt.
